Founded and funded by Newporters in 1873, Newport Hospital began as a 12-bed cottage hospital on donated land. Today, Newport Hospital is a state-of-the-art, award-winning 129-bed health care facility that offers a broad range of medical services including emergency care, a birthing center, behavioral health unit, comprehensive surgical services, intensive care, acute inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation.
Newport Hospital has received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and Baby Friendly designation from the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
Nursing Specialties More than 30 percent of Newport Hospital nurses have attained and maintained national certification in their respective specialties. We offer many nursing specialties including: medical surgical, surgery/OR, emergency services, intensive care, wound care, lactation, maternal/child health, psychiatry, IV therapy, informatics, rehabilitation.
Nursing Programs Newport Hospital is affiliated with student nurse programs at the University of Rhode Island, Salve Regina University, and the Community College of Rhode Island.
Clinical Ladder Advancement Program This program was developed to recognize and reward those nurses who go beyond the requirements of their position descriptions to create and sustain our Magnet environment.
