This notice describes the types of medical information or protected health information we gather about you (or your child), with whom that information may be shared and the safeguards we have in place to protect it. You have the right to the confidentiality of your medical and health care information.
If the practices described in this notice meet your expectations, there is nothing you need to do. If you prefer that we do not share your medical information, we may honor your written request in certain circumstances.
Health Information Exchange
An electronic health information exchange (HIE) allows you as a patient; your health care providers; health plan or managed care entities; and authorized public health authorities to appropriately access and securely share vital medical information for treatment, payment, and health care operations.
Using HIE improves the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient care, and may reduce health care costs. Federal law regulates use of electronic health information exchanges.
Lifespan participates in several HIEs (Epic Care Everywhere, CareQuality, eHealthExchange, and Rhode Island Quality Institute’s CurrentCare) and automatically shares your vital medical information with them as authorized or permitted by law. Patients are automatically enrolled in the HIEs that Lifespan participates with, in order to facilitate information-sharing with your care team. You may choose to terminate participation by directly contacting or notifying an HIE. In addition, Lifespan offers its patients the ability to opt out of sharing their information with our participating HIEs. Learn more about HIEs and how to opt out
