Nicholas S. Ward, MD

Nicholas Ward, MD is associate director of the medical intensive care unit at Rhode Island Hospital and an assistant professor of medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Ward has written and published on such topics as ventilation strategies in acute respiratory distress syndrome, oxygen mediated lung injury, the use of computers in intensive care units and end-of-life issues in critical care. His current research focuses on immunologic mediators of injury in sepsis and resource utilization in intensive care units.

Ward completed his undergraduate studies at Colgate University and earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his residency at New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center while also functioning as assistant chief resident at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He completed his training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
